Finding the "treasure"

In the month of September 2022 various objects used for religious purposes during the period in which the church of the same name was in operation were found inside the Sant'Agostino Auditorium. The set of objects, named as “treasure of Saint Augustine”, which bear witness to the religious customs of the previous century, among which the candle holders stand out, they are largely made of wood and in common use.

The overall objects on display are nails, hooks, plumes, fabrics decorative, wicks made with some intertwined fibers covered with paper, which could have been oiled or pages from old Bibles, remains of some knives and more than thirty candle holders, both wood and metal, found with the relative guards and tools for making the candle. Many of them are decorated and painted by hand.

The most particular finds are a cloth-covered copper electric cable with a switch, a corporal and a bipartite flag in the colors of the municipal coat of arms with the Eye of Providence in the centre, an esoteric symbol associated with Freemasonry which, despite the irreconcilability between Catholic doctrine and Masonic principles, most often it can be found in places of worship.
